I was sitting in the parking lot this morning, running and in park and just listening to music before I went in.

Then the "buzz/Hum" sound started and I looked up and the screen said the "low traction"

What's going on? It's happened before but just when I was moving. Even though it was about 1mph

Sounds like a short of some kind. Is the fuse intact and tight in its slot?

Haven't really had time, but when I do I'll look for loose fuses.

ABS sensor might be gone. Was it raining that day or the night before. My 04 compg sometimes gives me warnings like low tire pressure, traction control off and abs off. I have learned to live with it for now cause it is several hundred dollars to replace the hub and sensor as they are not sold seperately

Could also be the wire going to one of the sensors. I was told that my front driver's side sensor was bad so I spent the money to change it. As I was backing out, the light came right back on. I'm still trying to locate the short. I recently replaced about 2 feet of the wire going to the harness, but the problem still exists. A new harness, which is only 2 wrapped wires going to a harness, costs $75 from the dealership and Autozone only carries the harness for the opposite side that I need.

I hate our traction control systems. I've had to replace 2 perfectly good hubs cause it would be constantly engaging the Traction and ABS.

Who ever thought it was a great idea to incorporate the wheel speed sensor into the hub needs to get a boot to the face.

Also, several hundred for the hubs??? are yours gold plated? I pay 150 Canadian per here.

Oh man, yeah, it resurrection time.

I've been having the problem stated in the OP for quite a while now. For the last year, every time I start the car and put it into gear I get that "hum/muffled buzz/strange vibration sound" from perhaps under the hood. I only happens once I start moving. I don't even have to press the gas pedal. The noise occurs after rolling about 3-10 feet forward. The head lights (and any other lights) dim during this brief sound (1-1.5 seconds). However, now if starting to happen more frequently over the last 3 weeks...the low traction displays on the DIC. A few times the "hum" & low traction display & lights flickering will happen as soon as I touch the gas pedal to take off from a light (in which the motor was already run...I was in traffic).

I'm wondering if the alternator is binding up or something being that the "hum" & low traction display & lights flickering happen all at once.

Does anyone have an idea of what this could be?

EDIT: It doesn't matter if wet outside or not. No other lights or warning show up. No DTC are set. Outside temp doesn't matter. My tires are Eagle GTs with only about 10k on them. I'm not even going over 5mph...like stated before it can happen as low as 1mph just enough speed that the torque propels me to do with accelerating.

@Onmy2ndGP... this may be unrelated.. but I got that buzz, hum etc... just as you described when moving forward, sometimes in R.... I posted in the transmission section, and we concluded that it was the ABS self test... the lights do flicker too... up to now I haven't gotten a low traction message when this happens... I wonder if its a wiring thing then as Blackwood menitoned..

Thanks for the reply....my eyes are bleeding from searching traction control & ABS threads. I'll look at the thread you posted right now.

That noise is the ABS self test (if you are holding the brake pedal when it occurs, you'll feel it in your foot like it's slippery for a second). Your lights are dimming because it's pulling power and operating the solenoids in the ABS module. Think of the noise you hear when you're actually using ABS on a slippery road... You get the same noise, but more potent with extreme light dimming.

The DIC errors are popping up due to the self test failing. Something is not reading what it should, ie; bad wheel speed sensor, no signal from hub (corroded wires) or some other issue.

I know when I do wash my car (rarely), I usually have these errors as well for a few days. I haven't REALLY dug into it, but it's safe to assume it's a bad contact/water in the plug at the hub. I usually spray liberally in these areas, so I've just come to expect it.

A guy I work with has an 01 gt and about every other time you turn while going slow ( parking lot or slower) it will activate the ABS. I am sure it is a broken / breaking wire, I just haven't had a chance to trouble shoot it for him yet. I am hoping it don't act up while he is on slippery roads ( snow and ice) if it does I will unplug the sensors so at least he can stop.

Ugh! It's getting worse. It's mild during the 1st movement after I start up the motor. Now, after driving any distance, when I put it in reverse I get that noise for about 3-5 seconds. Guess I know what my Monday morning will be like...
