Ok, so I'm looking through the service manual to see what I need to do for replacing my drive belt tensioner. One of the steps tells me to drain the coolant system. Why would I need to do that? Is it just because I need to remove the coolant recovery reservior?

I don't see why you would need to drain the whole system. You only need to move the coolant reservoir and you can do that without draining it.

Depending on which tensioner you're replacing, the coolant runs through it. That what those little elbows are all about.

There is more then one tensioner? Is that only on Supercharged engines?

Yeah, there is a second tensioner on the supercharged engines. On either engine, the acc'y belt tensioner contains the cooling system.

After researching this part, I can see why you would need to drain the cooling system. If only changing the belt. then you only need to move the coolant reservoir.
