I got my third brake lights from Flip, and I wanted to put on of them on. But I was thinking about doing that spolier modification. But I can't seem to find the thread that talks about it. Could someone find the thread for me I would really appreciate it. I know I need to get some rubber gromets, but I do not know what size I need to get, and what else I need to get as well. Any help would be appreciates, thanks in advance.

I have a 07 and when i looked at mine there is a small gap between the trunk lid and spoiler.
Water will pass through mine, check on yours and see.

the stock spoiler has a little gap, but junk still gets in there. here is a pic of my 2005 gp when i swapped the stock spoiler for the SPO
Image
and that was roughly 3 years of junk.
the SPO has even more of a gap. only parts touching the trunk are the mounting areas. i can blast water through the gap now. but if i were to keep the stock spoiler, i would do the washer mod to get more clearance. i didn't see the need with the SPO.

Yeah, that's what I think I am going to see, since there is almost 6 years worth of Northern, VA dirt and grime up under there. And I want to put my third brake light on that I got from Flip. And those stupid screw are a B$^%h to get out w/o removing to spoiler. So if I am going to remove the spoiler, I thought why not try the modification out, it never hurts to try it out and see how it looks.

Actually an easy way to take them out w/o removing the spoiler is to use (i think a 5/16") ratchet wrench and then insert a phillips screwdriver bit in the ratchet wrench, push up on the bit with your finger to keep pressure on the screw head and use the ratchet action to unscrew the screws. That's how I did it to remove/re-install mine when I tinted it.

And as im typing this now im also thinking, a regular 1/4" drive rachet with correct socket to hold a bit (again, i think its 5/16") might also do the trick if clearance allows...

The screws on mine are so rusted I couldn't get them out even after removing the spoiler so I have to give the car back with my SPO spoiler still attached. :cussing:

I found that I used a little oil, and a Makita (sp) and I got the (2) screws out with little problems. But had I not taken the spolier off I would have stripped the screws. I am glad that I went on ahead and took the spolier off. I decided that I would not go with the modification, we have theses foam inserts in between our spoilers and the trunk lid. So I think I will just leave it the way it was.
