As some of you know recently a driver smashed into the side of my car and fled the scene immediatly, Still havent got a chance to fix the damage from that crash when yesterday traffice ahead stopped and a 2001 Grand Am plowed into the back of my Grand Prix.

Here are the results...

Image

Image

Even though nothing struck the front of the car the steering wheel is off center by a quarter turn and the back wheel is bent out of place from the exhaust hitting the adjusting bar or whatever it's called. Body panel is also creased by the rear window.

x2, Rear quarters don't crease unless there's frame damage underneath.

Still have not heard on the insurance decision but I had it brought to a body shop ive dealt with in the past and they are pretty good at what they know. They dont think it's frame damage but im going to have a look myself as well to confirm from what I see.

Im thinking with the previous accident and this one together it will likely be wrote off and id be looking at a first offer probably around 10k+hst, after negotiation I would get around 14k including hst.

last year I got a check for 11,700 for my 04 base when that one was hit from behind. the initial offer was around 8k.

These things are hard on the neck as well...

I hope it works out for ya. I've had two hit-n-runs. Hated sitting in a car that just spun several times just to finally stop and see those idiots drive off on their marry way.

A word of advice....keep no valuable in your truck. And perhaps install some LED tails. Mine are so freaking bright that there's no way someone can't notice me.

I was thinking about LED tails as well, Not only for the brightness but they are instant on which gets them noticed, A normal bulb takes about a second before it's full bright which could make quite a difference.

This time around my trunk was empty, it would have had a laptop, desktop tower and a water cooler but for some reason I decided to clean all the inside of the car and brought those items inside the house, haha

Flashing third brake light would be useful as well. Some Miata's have them and a company makes a device which could be wired into any car. I've been considering it for a while since I can look in my review mirror and see people not paying attention then slamming on their brakes to not hit the back of me.
Also it's key to be looking for "a way out" at all times when driving, especially when sitting at a stop light. If you see the person behind you isn't going to stop in time, gun it to the side of the road or another unoccupied lane (this of course is only possible if you left enough room between you and the car in front of you). Habits like this can save you a lot of headache and body panels.

Usually when someone panic stops behind me they swerve towards the shoulder, so the idea of gunning it and doing the same would still end up in a collision.

I can't believe how bad the Grand Am is and your GP looks like it hardly got hit.

crumple zones the GP would look like the GA if it rear ended the GA.

and the GA would look like the GP with almost no damage to the rear. the cobalt the ass pounded the merc was just like the GA

And that is why other drivers are just dumb, aside from having to panic stop in the first place. If you swerve while braking you've effectively lengthened stopping distance and put yourself in a more dangerous position to possibly lose control of the vehicle entirely.

Nice tattoo on rear bumper (see arrowhead and grille mark) lol That's stink about your car got hit.

I think in 2006 or whenever. When I'm sitting at red light at 0 mph. Behind me is dumpster truck (yikes) he doesn't stop. I see he is flying really fast to my rear mirror like 1000 feet away. I knew it will going to be bad. I took a hard right turn to shoulder area. Dumpster truck almost blew by my driver mirror by inch. He totally ran the red light. It has a camera on it. I hope he get caught. He almost hit another car who have a green light. If I didn't move out of my way then I might be killed or serious injury. After that I always keep eye on my rear mirror to make sure someone is stopping behind me so I can look ahead.

Now cellphone accident is getting worse so keep eye on rear mirror!

Have to weigh the consequences. If a person hits you smack in the rear at 30 MPH it's going to suck, but if your'e moving at 15 MPH and they are still traveling at 30, then combined collision speed is only 15 MPH. Sometimes collisions can't be avoided, sometimes they can, but almost all the time the degree of severity can be reduced if you're on your toes and always have a ditch strategy.

Another thing that angers me is people pulling out of lanes to the point you actually have to hit the brakes hard...

Im sure these people who rear end someone must feel really stupid after the fact
It was a younger guy maybe 17 and only him in the car, He must have been distracted by something anyway.

Here they banned the use of cellphones while driving, so you got the people that still text but now they focus even more on hiding the device and adds to even more distraction with the idiots that still do it.

Another surprising thing is this guys airbags did not deploy, even though he hit be at full speed and my car barely moved, I would think that much rapid deceleration should have deployed them.

I should have the insurances decision on monday on what they will do,if its a total with my calculations with negotiations I should recieve around 13,600 plus hst canadian for the car. With my insurance the buy back is 20% of the total settlement plus the loss of HST Credit. From what ive read thats alot compared to other insurance companies I read about in the US.

with the year of his car the modual under the passenger seat cold of been too corrodid to respond. also if the tires lock up the speed goes to "0" and the computer thinks this si an error and will not deploy the bags.

it is a big complicated what ifs with air bags as there is no way to test if they will work with out setting them off
