My friend just brought a 2004 pontiac grand prix gtp about 2-3 weeks ago, not sure when the problems started....but heres the problem

She drives the car one day and the next day she doesn't run/start it, the day after that the car won't start?
the temperature doesn't seem to be a factor cause the car can be outside where its 10 degress outside or in a heated garage.
we took the battery with the car to 3 different places to have it check, but all three places said that the battery is fine.

just wandering if anyone else had this problem before?

SO far she has had to jump start her car about 10 times now...

I think the alternator is fine cause its displaying the its putting out about 14.9 volts unless the sensor for that is not working?
Another thing we notice is that when we leave the radio on for about 1 hr the car won't start? IS this a normal thing for these cars? The reason why I ask because in the other vehicles we've own we can run the radio for longer periods of time but the vehicles still start (but then again the grand prix's are pretty much the first cars we've driven/own that are cars and now suvs or pickups) Just cerious if this is a normal thing for vehicles like the grand prix.

Still sounds like a faulty battery to me. Did she try another battery?

Sounds like a bad battery to me as well. When was the last time it was replaced? It's it's the original battery, it's past it's lifespan (typically 6 years).

Maybe the starter is on its way out? Its easy to remove and checked at the auto parts store.

< Chants...battery battery...pounds on table.

Tell her to buy a new battery there relatively cheap compared to other electronic components and comes w/ typically a 3-7 year warranty.

^^Lawlz, but I'm right there with you. Now is probably a good time to mention that driving with a toasted battery shortens your alternators lifespan. Putting off regular maintenance items = more expensive repairs later on.

This. but yea have her replace the battery. At one point I had a Optima red top maybe 3 months old cranked maybe 2x car was sitting in the driveway for months waiting on a fuel pump to come in and long behold replaced the pump...no power..hmm. I said can't be the batter it's a $250 battery can't be dead..took it to AZ and Advance tested bad...fine they chrged it 4 8hrs picked it up....still no power. Didn't have my volt meter at the time so I took a little 9mm led I had laying around stuck it on battery...nothing. Took battery back...raised hell they wanted to "charge" it again. Told them kcuf no...no reason a expensive battery like that needs to be chrged again in a car that hasn't been driven in awhile not to mention I had the battery out most of the time.....ended up getting it exchanged for one manuf that same month...car cranked fine.

cliff notes..... it's the battery most guys at AZ or Advance are idiot except Kyle :) and only know what their computer tells them and rarely listens to the customer. One of the reason I order everything online and use a coupon code and walk across the street to pick up the order no need to explain or listen to those morons :)

Quick question. What was the condition of the battery you changed a brand new one/used and was it pushing out at least 12 volts?

It was a brand new battery, the car after a day of sitting still had to be jumped, but once we took out the radio fuse we left the car for about two days and it started right up... so now where looking at a new radio... would after market ones work or they won't work with the (dic)?

Aftermarkets fine you'll lose the calender feature. She can also go a cheaper route and get a 6 disk or single player stock deck...usually on the forums. If you go aftermarket...remember you'll have to get a module to cheap steering wheel controls and chimes if she wants those. LMK I still have my stock 6 disk boxed up that ill sell for a decent price. Hope she fixes her issues soon.
