has anyone ever experienced a "clunking noise" when you hit bigger bumps? it almost sounds like something is loose but i cant pinpoint it at all when driving. it just sounds like something under the car, thats all i know for sure.

Where on the car are you hearing this? Front, back, middle?

Strut mounts, sway bar links, struts, and things of that nature would be ideal places to start.

I'd start with the strut mount. There's a bearing in it that probably went bad

Is your steering loose? I had a BROKEN sway bar one time and every time I went over bumps it clunked.

Never seen how they tend to rust through at the endlink? Common problem (or so i've heard) for guys on the east coast

Mine is doing the same thing. Typical problem with GM strut mounts. My old 96 Cavalier did the same.

I'm planning on replacing mine - has anyone tried the comparable Monroe (or other aftermarket) part? Are they any better?

Have Monroes on the SE. To me, they're a bit bouncy with a little too much travel, but they do their job

First thing that comes to mind is end links. Take one off and see if it has any rebound back to straight. After replacing mounts and struts on mine it ended up being cheap ass stock end links. I think Don Rome had these make noise on his car back in the day. :dunno:

Mine produces a "clicking" noise as well but it comes from the rear.

I would check the end links in the rear. My fronts and rears we garbage.

I don't think there's anyway to tell besides to replace them.. as it would an internal problem.. I could be wrong tho.

i just went for a cruise with my buddy down some bumpy ass roads and he was thinkin' possibly end link, sway bar or even a ball joint. so i dont know i might just go take it in and hope the warranty covers it. i dont really feel like dicking around with something that isnt the for sure problem.

Ditto, here. I'm going to follow this thread pretty closely.
