So I got in an accident on Wednesday because some people are idiots. Driving on the middle lane of the highway an asshat behind me was weaving recklessly in and out of traffic while it was raining. He proceeded into the right lane beside me. A car was ahead of him in that lane and he decided to be a jackass and come into my lane where he would have hit the top of my passenger door to the front of the car. I quickly looked in my mirror and back to make sure it was clear and didn't see the truck in my blind spot. Truck hit my rear putting the rear of the car into a spin, spun across two lanes of traffic and into the guard rail. Asshole cutting me off didn't stop and I ended up getting cited. The truck I ended up hitting had no damage and even verified that the guy was driving like an idiot, especially in the rain.

Here's the damage:

I hate a-hole drivers. Glad everybody is alright though. Looks like your car has had some repair done previously. Do you know anything about it? With the previous repair it could easily be pushed to the "T" word.

no previous repairs actually, where you see that?

And I've been told it would be 3k or 4k for the body repairs, bank values the car at 6.

Sorry to hear and see this. Not a very good christmas gift at all. Hopefully the insurance company will work it out to your satisfaction.

Me too, I was just recently told by a guy who has dealt with this alot that they won't toal it, not with it being an 04 with 77k on it and the damage isn't absolutely horrendous or more then 85% of what the car is worth.

Sorry to hear about this. My sisters 04 gt hit a deer a few weeks ago and looks almost identical to the damage on your front fender/bumper/door, and they almost wrote it off. 4200 of damage. Hopefully it all works out good for you.

Lower quarter-panel looks like it has body filler in it. I could be wrong though.

That's crap from the guard rail. The car had no damage on it when I bought it.

If you have the info From the witness I would fight the ticket. D-bag. Worst to worst, no more than what the damage is if they " T " it you could buy it back do some half ass repairs. ( visually) and have a nice ( inside) low mileage winter beater ( or second / spare) for cheap that will last a good long while. Thinking daily driver and have like " toy " on the side.

Honestly, I would be praying its totaled.. They are going to use aftermarket parts on it, And if you choose the wrong shop they are going to load the panels with mud..

Not all the time does mud fall off in chunks.. Depends on the quality of the body filler, And how thick it was applied.

Sorry to hear that another GP might be totaled. I ended up in an accident back on 11-12-11, the insurance co. totaled mine. I don't know where you are at mod wise, but I got $9545. for mine. And I still got to remove some of the aftermarket parts, it was at 101k+ and 8 years old. Again I am sorry to hear about the accident, I too can't stand nimrod drivers. Since that is how mine ended up the way it did. But at least you have a price to work with some if the insurance totals it. Good-Luck with everything.

I'm not I still owe on it and the bank would take the money for the loan screwing me over. Damage isn't as bad as I thought so well see.

And thanks guys, the witness statement did say the guys was weaving across all lanes of traffic

This.

Sorry to hear about the car man but I'm glad you're ok. I would hope for it to be totaled so you can get a check and start over. Once a car is wrecked it's never the same, and there might be some damage that can't be seen yet based on how tweaked the rear 1/4 panel is. You can take what's left from the bank and get a new loan. I mean I don't want you to get screwed since you still owe on it but I can gaurantee that you'll be able to notice a huge difference (for the worse) in the way the car drives if they do fix it.

Another option if if were to get totaled would be to buy it back and do the work yourself to ensure it's done right.

Unless they give me more then I think they will if it's totalled I will not get anything from the settlement at all. and if I buy it back I wouldn't know what to do...

Just have to wait on insurance for now...

What a dipsh!t. I'm glad you're okay though. That's the important part. Now to just wait for the insurance to kick in. I'm sorry to hear it man. I've been hit a few times, and I was lucky enough to pull through it all, barely. I'm sure things will pan out for you. Good luck.

If the car is valued at 7, I highly doubt the insurance company will pay more than 2 to have it fixed. To me, It looks like there is way more damage there. Up here I know its based by a percentage.

:/

Might have to sell it and put money into another one. Just throwing options out there. Unless you're willing to pay out of pocket for the rest of the damage.

See but I would think if the frame is not bent and the body is fixable why would they pay 7k when they could pay 3 to 4?

I was told with Ohio if it's under 80% of the car cost they'd fix it

And also, with everything I cannot sell the car because I still have a loan out on it. I will not get a penny of the settlement if they total it.
