I put the KYB GR2/Excels on the '04 wife's GT2 1.5 years 15K miles ago, and truth be told, I never really liked them. They seemed way too soft.

The rear end had become so wobbly lately that I just couldn't stand it anymore, so I bought some Delco FE2 (OEM) struts to put on the rear. Doing the swap today, the reason for the wobbliness became obvious. The one KYB GR2 on the rear was completely shot, and mean completely. After getting both of the rears off the car and disassembling the strut/spring/mount assemblies, I did a crude test on the them by pushing their shafts down all the way. One of them doesn't rebound......at all. Even the original struts I took off after ~7 years and 80K miles had a little life in them, but this KYB was dead. Pretty disappointing, to say the least.

I left the front KYBs on, as the front seems OK, but the rear end with it's new FE2s is much, much better.

Are you lowered at all? GR2's usually last longer than that if you're not lowered.

No, not lowered.....factory springs. Other bits are modded: gmpp sway bar, moog endlinks, umi trailing arms, but that should be inconsequential.

It's definitely a defective part. The one strut was dead, the other wasn't. I'm disappointed, but as I also said, I really didn't like them when they were new away. They seemed way too soft for the rear end, which is odd because no one else with them seemed to feel the same way. Perhaps they were bad from the start, but they definitely got worse over time.

The AGX's are but not the GR2's.

Doesn't KYB offer a replacement policy?

I probably have none of the receipts, and the cost of shipping is probably a significant portion of the total cost anyway. I'm not so worried about the cost of the parts....it's the labor hassle that was the bigger issue. Luckily, the weather was unusually warm for Ohio standards this weekend that I could do it and not freeze my a## off.
