I was just wondering if anyone has done this upgrade and if they have had any problems with it, especially over a long period of time. Thanks!

i have a 98 gtp, i took the stock tubing and put a cone with a piece of pvc pipe. no problem at all, you should be completely fine...

but what i think your saying is to not have any tubing either? ive seen it done on a 3.4 and it competly changed the sound, as far as power i dont think it did much. but like i said you should be fine but im not completly sure of the series III engines

This is what I did on my 2006 GT, I took the stock airbox apart, left one half in that holds the PCM, removed the other parts.
Where the MAF sensor is I just put my open cone right there, I used a 3.5" inlet Amsoil Cone Filter. If you can measure the opening for the MAF, I'm almost 100% it was a 3.5" filter I used, but could be a 3"

this is my setup on my 07. i think it's able to keep the engine bay heat out pretty well. just some pvc and a k&n filter. the whole deal cost me about 60 big ones.

I personally wouldn't use a K&N filter. I dont know about the cone filters, but some of their other filters have oil in them that has been known to foul out the MAF sensor.....that's why a lot of guys use a different brand of "dry" filter, rather than an oiled one. Just something to consider

it is the only kind of cone filter that my advance auto had the day i went to buy it. i can't comment or speculate on that because i haven't used any other brands...also, this one is good for life (but does have to be recharged every once in a while). i would have used whatever...i didn't really care atm.

yeah, been in that situation before myself. but I wasn't bashing you or anything. anything has to be better than the restrictive stock airbox that comes on our cars from the factory
