As you all recall i got a steal of a deal on some gtp rims recently... well i went to polish them up and i ran into a problem... i think two are chrome and two are polished aluminum... im not sure though.. ive seen plenty of polished aluminum and but its almost too well polished to be aluminum.. its almost like the chrome is tarnished or something... tell me what you think.. i know pic quality isnt the greatest but you can see the difference in the light reflection.. input? Advice?

Is it possible that one is a factory wheel and the other is an aftermarket reproduction?

Or, has the chrome been polished off of the one on the right?

I'm not a big chrome fan myself, so I prefer the one on the right.

These are only two out of the four, two look like the one on the left, and the other two look like the one on the right

Correct.
The left wheel is Chrome plated, the right is polished Aluminum.
Decide which two you like and buy two more to match.

Strip the chrome off the 2 and just polish them to match the others.

Those wheels have a problem with the chrome plating peeling and causing leaks. 2 of them were probably stripped because of this. Or two of the original chrome wheels started leaking so they got those same wheels but they were painted so they polished them.

Lots of sandpaper and aluminum polish. Depending on the pitting/corrosion going on, you could start with 600-1000 grit sandpaper (or more towards 100 if heavy pitting and corrosion or curbage) and work your way to 2000 wetsanding then just get a polishing wheel and hit it with some polishing compound, then aluminum polish, then clear coat them. It's really not hard, just time consuming. I've already put about 30 hours into polishing my project cars intake manifold, but it was cast aluminum, so that always takes way longer.

Someone here posted a DIY from Stanceworks a while ago. I'll see if I can find it.

Put the two chrome rims on one side of the car, and the aluminums on the other. Problem solved :P
