What are the symptoms of bad bearings? Do back ones go bad?

Reason I ask is this 04 I recently got is just VERY loud. I want to say it is the tires, because they are in TERRIBLE shape, but I could be wrong.

I know when my front drivers side bearing was goin out I can hear a click or clunk. For awhile I was sure it was the intermediate shaft but when I took it to the stealership they put it on a lift and found play on my front driver side wheel and they knew it was the bearing. I was there watching them look at my car and they got some paperwork out and the new wheel hub. I signed the paperwork and it was covered under the powertrain warranty.... didn't cost me 1 cent.

What feildysdreams said.....Also if it gets to be a loud sound like humming. If you turn your steering wheel to the left and it goes away then it would be your right side and vis versa. I dont think it would be your tires only if they are totaly shot. does the sound humming only do it at certain speeds.

I had a bad bearing on an old 91 cutlass I had, It's not like that was. It is even at slow speeds like 25, just gets louder and louder the faster you go. The 5 hour trip home was a nightmare at 70, so loud. Gave me a bad headache.

I've been through a bunch of bearings on both of my Malibus and
one on the GP. Not sure why the one on the GP went, but the others
went from my lovely bride using the Braille Method of Parking (tm).

It's such a relief when you get them done and that dammmmm whine
goes away.

BTW, I've never heard of a rear bearing going bad. But, then again,
I'm not a mechanic.

I've only seen one bad rear wheel bearing go. It was maybe 6 years ago in a friends POS 90's Cavalier. We were going down the road the out of nowhere the car started to wobble, so me being the passenger I stick my head out the window and look back and the rear wheel is wobbling around and looked like it was about to break off. After a hour or so of breaking rusted bolts loose we replaced it on the side of the road.

Glad we were close to my house so I had my car to get the parts.

Wheel bearings sound like a loud WHINE and it changes if you turn the steering wheel certain ways. Bad tires will feel like a thump-thump-thump and will be more noticeable when you have some speed on and are just coasting - like approaching a traffic light or such at 20-30. The bearing will be loud at low speeds and get louder form there.

It doesn't thump thump thump, but it also doesn't change pitch or anything when turning
