I was having withdrawals. I hadn't seen it in over 2 weeks. They were supposed to have it ready for me when we got back from vacation, however the gears that came in were for a non-supercharged car so they had to reorder. The low pressure was caused by a worn out bearing. There were quite a few chewed up teeth on the gears as well.

Final price was $2182.77

A lot better than the $3500 bill the last time I had it rebuilt. (And that was without changing any hard parts. Never trust your slealership)

I orginally planned to get a tranny from Trannyman, however after shipping, installation and shipping the core back, it was cheaper and quicker to just have the shop rebuild it. Not to mention having to come up with a core charge and I would have had very little warranty.

Nothing again Trannyman's transmissions, I just didn't have the extra money. I would have definitely gone that route if I had the money.

Good to hear that you got it back. Was any of it able to be covered under extended warranty or did it all expire already?

155,000 miles. The warranty expired a long, long time ago. Even the 12 month /12,000 mile warranty from the 1st rebuild expired 3 months after it was installed.

damn transmissions are expensive!! my 2000gp went through 2 under warranty. 1500 a piece for used/rebuilt ones, glad i didn't pay a dime. then when it decided to go AGAIN outside of warranty it would have been 2500 bucks. after my history i just traded it in with a pretty much blown transmission. all that from only 85k. felt kind of bad to see the dealer selling it for WAY more than book with a shot tranny.

but the 05 is doing fine.

Glad to hear you got your ride back, I know how painful that can be. We just had to get the Jeeps transmission completely rebuilt, that was a $3,000.00 job. So we feel your pain.

That explains why it was overheating. Maybe it will last until 200K now, or until you get a G8.

Those are some high prices on transmission rebuilds, IMO... When I had my transmission rebuilt in my Taurus at 112K miles, I had them put a Trans-Go shift kit in there as well. The total bill was about $1800, and that's including a tow from my house to the shop which was about 10 miles. I had a great warranty (3yrs, unlimited miles) and 1 free trans flush coupon.

And goodness, 144K miles on a 2004? You're 1K miles higher than my Taurus and it's a '97! I must not do enough driving!

Have you installed an Auxillary transmission cooler yet? If you haven't, you might want to look into that. The guys over at the TCCA (and myself) swear by them.

Man, that's a lot of miles, especially for an '04. It's too bad thay you don't have a GMPP warranty still just to make sure that anything that will occur would be covered.

Bringing it back tomorrow. Looks like they crushed one of my ABS/Traction sensors when they put the subframe back in. Both warning lights have been on since I picked it up and the DIC keeps saying to service both the traction system and the ABS system. Also, I checked the transmission temp when I got home last Friday and it was up to 212F

I called them up and they said they would take care of it. I'll probably put an aux cooler on it when I get it back just to be safe.

Blackwood it seems the days are numbered for your GP. That was the reason I got rid of mine, the trans was starting to slip. Better snatch up a G8 before there's no more left!

I wish. Wife says it's out of the question. If I get rid of the GP, I'll be forced into something I don't want. As I've said before, new house and 2 girls in private school add up to no new car for me.

I truly don't understand why your trans keeps behaving this way. Could there be something other than that that is causing it??? Over production of torque maybe?

Well they checked it out and everything seems to be correct. They do highly recommend that I get an aux cooler though. Other than that, they fixed the ABS problem. The wires going into the sensor on the drivers side were loose. I was going to have them install the cooler while they had it so that I wouldn't have to worry about it. However, the guy was pretty honest and told me that I'd be better off doing it myself because he'd have to charge me too much for a pretty easy job because of the time it takes to remove the lower air dam and fabricate mounts for the type of cooler they stock.
