Since I did the install for the FWI, I wanted to do something with the PCM since it does not have a tray anymore, now I also have a extra PCM that is programed for my car. So basically one PCM for Performance and one for factory. Now my idea is to make a dual PCM tray, This will allow me to switch from daily driver to performance - may sound useless but I travel alot so the performance is not always need. I also want to see if I can make it look really nice, if I can find a nice plastic box - I can do a cut out use plexglass and vent it along with fans and LEDs and Pontiac symbol. What you guys think? Also if you have any ideas throw them out there!

Sounds like a good idea, just a suggestion though, make some plastic covers to go over the connectors that are not in use. :)

Is it work all the trouble with sometimes needing to do security relearns? On a standard 04+ PCM this takes 45 minutes.

I personally run the larger tray from wbodystore. Must have bought it a couple years back before they brought out the smaller (correct) size tray for the 04+.

I have a built car and PRJ tuned my car and I still get great gas mileage at highway speeds not sure why you would need to switch back in forth. I run the 1/4 in the 12's and get close to 30MPG on trips with the car loaded (3kids and all their stuff) just my thoughts

I'm in the same boat as Tyler. It is even worse if I have my Overkilled PCM in.. I kinda quit running it as of late because of this. I put on over 300 miles every week, every little bit helps.

30 MPG, I dream of that.

After the turbo I am just a hair above 20 MPG

i dont think its gonna work very well modding and running a pcm tuned for your mods and then switching to another not tunned for it

im getting 25 on the hwy and my tune is pig rich, a GOOD tune will allow you to have the performance you want but still be able to DD it with decent gas mileage

This wouldn't be a useful project. If you tune, even if it is for performance, a good tune will also get you mileage on the highway. I wouldn't do it...will be more trouble than it is worth.

I made roughly 300HP, and got 33+mpg on the highway at 72mph.

Very true. I will never buy an out of the box tune again... Not happy with it. I doubt I will put anymore money into mine now though since I have 102,000 miles on it now. May just run it for the winter and start looking for something new in Spring.

x2

I will never buy a box tune.. each car is a little different (some are A LOT different) and a custom tune by a good tuner is the only way I'll go and it's what's best for the car.

Hmm it sounds like you guys haven't had any problems with traveling on the performance PCM's, it was explained that it may be harder on the car going 600-800 miles on a trip. This was why I had the idea. If you guys havent had a problem, I will make a custom single tray with some appearance and LEDs.
