I am going to be getting my exhaust tips fixed and figured I would replace the resonater with a glass pack to change the exhaust note a little bit...eventually I will be replacing the mufflers with something else when they go bad...I've seen thrush, cherry bomb, and walker glass packs...is there any difference in them outside of the name and does the length matter? Thanks

Lenth matters the most!!!!!! The longer it is, the less rasp it will have. As for brands, I put a Perforated style Cherry Bomb on the 97 and 2 years later haven't had any issues with it. I have heard that the fiberglass packing likes to turn to confetti after a while and thus make the exhaust louder, but so far I haven't noticed any change at all. Thush is very good as well (they are perforated) and Walker I'm not sure about. Just make sure that the glasspack is a straight through perforated design and not the louvered type since those kind restrict air flow.

This is bad

Slightly less bad

How long should I look at getting? The glass pack will make it a little deeper right? What size is the stock exhaust where the resonator is?

I went with a 36" and it was slightly deeper than the stock resonator. Others I believe have used 27-mid30's so hopefully they will chime in.

And highway drone will drive you crazy. Ask me how I know.

Stock exhaust diameter is 2.25"

Yeah Im right there with you... I had a custom exhaust built for my 98 GTP with the u bend delete and no rez...

The drone was so bad that I was back less than a week later and had one installed... Even then the car was a bit too loud.

Its really personal preference. And :the shorter the glasspack the louder it is. On the ram I went from thrush mufflers to.36 inch thrush glass to.a. 10 inch racing pellet. I prefer thrush since they tale longer to rush but your average.life expectancy will be 5 years.Max. that's all around from rust to dead fibrrglass

I used turbo tubes(preforated tube for off road use aka rock crawlers mainly) for my 450hp sbc and the 36" ones were loud but then again the power output was pretty high too, Look at the turbo tubes, stay away from glass packs, they burn out and cause rust from the inside out. Also dynomax makes a style similar called the dynomax bullets, these little guys are the hotness. They have nothing to burn out and usually come with a corrosion resistant polished housing.

I doubt your wanting to do it but I think you would have the change you want as well as remove restriction by deleting the cat. ( unless your in one of " those " states.)

Keeping the factory Res ( not restrictive enough to worry about till about 300 HP) changing mufflers would have a change too. A Turbo or super Turbo of some type would probly do the trick and not be that loud with the factory Res. But would lower the tone and increase volume a bit

luckily i am not in one of those states so removing the cat is always a possibility....how much does that change the exhaust note? if i remove the cat is there a way besides tuning to get rid of the code it will throw? im not to worried about the exhaust as far as restriction since i wont be looking to really add a lot of hp to the car...just looking for a deeper slightly louder exhaust note with the least amount of drone as possible

I will see if i can get a few vids taken. Stock, slightly changed and post what they are ( what is done.) If i can do it all with my phone then the comparisons will be a nit closer. As the device would be the same and you can focus on the differences more. Then pick the one that is closest to yours and get an Idea for how much and type of change made.. I will work on this this weekend while I am off work.

And yes a flash or o2 simulator are the only ways. But the flash would beneficial for other things too. Like quicker shifts. Prolonging the life of the trans. Ect.

Anymore, it's not worth removing the cat for purposes of removing restrictions IMO. It's not like the old days where they cats were terribly restrictive. There are plenty of aftermarket cats out there that are not restrictive until you're putting out FAR more power than any 4T65E can handle. I have a chuckle every time someone suggests this. I know plenty of people well into the 10s who still have a cat on their car.

I just recently added a resonator. My flex pipe broke for the second time so I decided to redesign the exhaust system. Before it was SLP Headers into a double braided flex pipe, no cat, no resonator and SLP powerflo mufflers. It was loud but not hateful. very raspy which i absolutely hated. So now its the headers to double braided flex pipe to a OBX 20'' resonator reduced from 3'' to 2 1/2'' to the powerflo mufflers. still no cat. I have a video of before i will have to get a video of after. also here a photo of the new setup and what broke.
NEW!

So this isnt helpful to the OP really, but it reminded me of this morning. I was on my way to a job interview and some douchebag in a POS older honda definitely had a glasspack held on with hose clamps sticking out the back of the car. No muffler, no tips, just half the damn red glasspack hanging out the ass of the car LOL.
