The GM Service Manual says to replace hub bolts when changing out the Hub. Doesnt sound like a bad idea.

Is this just a precaution or is it really necessary? What do you guys do?

I will warn you, it is a pain in the @$$ to change those. The way they're positioned in the wheel well and the way you have little to no leverage will keep you frustrated the entire time. That and the fact those hub bolts are ridiculously tight (It's no surprise though).

I've never replaced them in the 7-8 Wbody wheel bearings I've done. I've always Loctited the threads though. No problems so far on any of those cars.

I think the service manual and/or a lot of mechanics will tell you that a lot of fasteners should be replaced with new ones. It is probably the best way to do it, just in case they have stress/fatigue, but I'd guess most people don't replace them if there aren't obvious defects. I re-used the bearing bolts. I'd say I re-use most of the bolts, unless they're corroded badly.

Almost all stretch to yield bolts I replace, but since these aren't stretch to yield I've never bothered to replace them
