Has anyone here used the rebuild service offered by Cheap ABS Inc. to have their EBCM (ABS Module) rebuilt? After trying to get a used module from eBay/Morad and looking at the price of the new unit from AC Delco at somewhere around $800 - $900 I pulled mine off and sent it to Cheap ABS Inc. He is offering a rebuild of the EBCM for my Comp G with JL4 Traction Control Module for $110 with a lifetime warrante. Almost seems too good to be true.

I'll be sure to let you guys know if this works out or not, these modules are known to fail and having a good source to get them fixed would be great. Removal was pretty easy - 6 torx bolts, 2 connectors (one was hidden under the unit) and it was in my hands. Boxed it up and sent it off. There are no current adverse affects to running my car without the module, I did my best to seal around the opening where the unit was removed. I have to drive my car while this is being repaired.

Wish me luck!

Well, got the unit back very quickly and put it in. Cleared the codes but still getting the ABS/Traction Control/Stability control Service indicators. I'm going to try to clear the codes one more time and then give the guy a call/email to see what else can be done. It is definately different from when I sent it off but not right. With the price of a new one I didn't want to take the chance of buying the $900 unit and not having it fix the problem. At least this guy says if it doesn't fix the problem he'll give me my money back.

He sounds honest at least. I'm suprised no one here has tried his service or at least took the time to reply to my post if they did try it. I'll keep you updated.

are you sure its the unit and not a broken wire coming off of one of the hubs or one of the hubs themselves?? not saying you didn't already rule these out you just didn't give any background so i had to ask.

Fair questions but I previously replaced both hubs, one of them twice because one of the DTC codes of the ABS came up with RF Tone Control (or something to that effect). My auto parts dealer gladly gave me a replacement hub since neither of us knew what a RF Tone control was but it sounded like it was the right front bearing. I've inspected as much of the wiring harness as possible and not found anything.

I asked about troubleshooting this issue in a previous thread and most respondants recommended replacing the EBCM as possible fix as long as I'd already replaced the hubs. I was just trying to find if anyone had dealt with this vendor with this thread. this seems to be a common fail on our cars. The guy I talked with at Morad parts said he could sell as many of these modules as he could get his hands on. He said they get 2 or 3 calls a week for them.

I've been dealing with this problem for over 2 years. Evidently, the short in my ABS wire was up high. Because since I got it back from the transmission shop, the ABS has been working just fine. No shutter stops, no ABS light, no traction and ABS disabled warnings.

Well, I got the module back relatively quickly so the guy did quick work. Still having some problems but they are now intermitent. Most of the codes cleared and I'm left with the "C0095 Right Front Wheel Tone Control(submodule)". Looks like this has cleared but something still intermittently give me the fail where my ABS/Traction control/Stability control turns off. I only get the fail every couple days and only happens while driving so this make me think I may have a short somewhere. Haven't found any chaffed or broken wires yet. Things are better but not perfect. So far I'm happy I only spent $110 to fix this (plus $15 for UPS) but frustrated I still have problems. I'm going to send an email to the Cheap ABS guy and ask if he has any troubleshooting tips. I am pleased with his overall communication and performance so far, I am at the point where I think he did what he could to fix my module, it is just there may be other problems.

There is another thread running concurrently here at the moment which descibed tracing back through the harness from the hub to the ebcm for a short... I suspect many of us have the same problem as you, but its in the wiring...

When Im off on Friday (weather permitting) Im looking at mine with a multi meter...

for what it's worth I'm still fighting this. I suspect it is the connector at the right front wheel where the bearing meets the body harness. I suspect either there is a bad contact or broken wire. I've been criusing the junk yards but no luck finding a GP in this year range. Anybody know if there are any cross models that might use the same bearing/harness plug?

It's a fairly common ACDelco connection, unfortunately, I don't have any part numbers or anything. Sometimes moisture get's into the connector and can cause intermittent problem. Dielectric greasing it solves the problem. Might be worth looking at before condemning the connector itself.

Edit: I did find that Dorman sells the whole male connector + body harness for 25 bucks at Rock Auto
DORMAN Part # 970042 for right front.
