So far I've checked out K&N and Weapon-R. I'm leaning more towards Weapon-R. I keep seeing good reviews about them and they are reasonably priced (found one on CARid.com) Does anyone have a Weapon-R intake in their GP? And what recommendations do you have as far as CAI is concerned?

make your own, much cheaper and just as effective
Home Depot has almost everything you need but the air filter.

plastic garbage can for the box
heat reflective insulation material
spray paint to make it look nice
flexible hose
hose clamps

I'd like to make my own intake for my '04 Comp G. Can anyone tell me what size piping I should get? 3.5"? 3"? I notice most people use PVC.. Is that recommended over mandrel bent steel, or is it just cheaper? Would heat be an issue with the steel? I feel like it might sound better? Or would it be raspier? Any thoughts?

My thoughts were to use something like this:

Image

I'd probably paint it black. That's 3.5" wide mandrel-bent steel, .065" wall thickness, bent on a 5 inch radius. The legs are about 4 and 5 inches long, respectively.. I'm sure I could shorten it if need be. (Does anyone have approximate measurements?)

Or would I be better off using PVC?

I have a 9" S&B Big Mouth filter with a 3.5" opening I'd like to use if possible, but if 3" piping is recommended, I can just grab another cone.

And how wide is the MAF opening? Would I need to reduce the pipe to fit the MAF?

Sorry for all the questions. Newb here. Thanks in advance! :)

most peoples use pcv because it is cheaper by far, but if you can mandrel cheaper the only down turn i could see on that effect is it's heavier, and these are mostly going to be HAI unless you create some sort of heat shield

I prefer pvc over metal due to less heat soak
