OK so the other day my alternator was whining like crazy. OK I'll just get a new one on the way home from work today I should be fine right? Wrong!!! I'm driving to work on the 401 (major highway in Ontario) in the inside lane and boom absolutely no power going 120km/h!!! Not cool trying to control the car at that speed or any sort of speed for that matter without power steering. Just waiting for a tow truck right now in the center of the highway.
It's fricken cold!

That sucks man, I've been stuck by the roadside a few times myself..gremlins are cruel and heartless buggers! A friend of
mine on another GP board got stuck in January near his friend's house, when a whining tensioner pulley blew up, and took
the belt with it. He had been waiting on the pulley to arrive since local stores were out of stock, and of course was mad
as hell at having to fix his car out in the cold.
Since we've all been there, I wrote and posted this up to make him laugh, and it worked! ;-)

Ode to the Pulley Gremlin

Now I sit behind the wheel,

I hope and pray my pulley don't squeal.

If it should screech and start to groan,

Please hold together 'til I get home.

The new part's ordered, and on its way

And I will install it, just not today.

But if you should fail, before week's end

My fellow GPer's ears I'll bend

In the hopes they too will understand

I didn't plan to fail, I just failed to plan

That you'd self-destruct quite so soon

In mid-January, instead of June.. :banghead:

But since the worst has come to pass,

I'll man up and fix it, while freezing my ass.. :occasion5:

These things suck.... lol....

I can only related to a belt tensioner exploding and leaving pieces in the engine bay... the car was still running but no power steering... this on the 14 year Cutlass Supreme w 3100...
Sometimes I think the GM belt tenisoners are not all made well...

Jobs these days are hard man, losing the one I'm working at soon....

If you're replacing the tensioner pulley, the bolt is probably left hand threaded (turn right to loosen) like on the 97-03 GPs. I'm sure someone can chime in to confirm this.

That sucks. I had a transmission blow underneath me while doing 80mph on I-70 in the middle of Missouri. I was halfway in between home and my destination. Either place I would have been able to get the car up on lifts (and my now ex-g/f's uncle was ready to haul his trailer down to MO from Nebraska to pick my car up so I could do that) but I'd already ordered the tranny to be shipped to the shop. Sucked but it did end up getting fixed. I've done a few repairs on the side of the road. Not fun but thankfully if I'm close enough to home for someone to bring me the part I need I have the mechanical knowledge to fix it right then and there.
