I've read a few threads about aftermarket exhaust systems for our cars.
I'm at the point where it's getting close to that time.
I'm wondering which systems flow reasonably well and aren't too noisy ..... close to stock,if possible ?
I'll be doing a full stainless system with resonator.
I'm thinking I might even use the SPO tips I'm running now with the new system for the stealth look.
Anyone got opinions on the aftermarket stuff, now that you've lived with them?
I've been looking at the Magnaflow.

hmmm hard to find a muffler that would alloow enough flow but still be quite

i would look into the mufflers from a CTS cadillac see if they would fit thous would allow flow and would be quite

The guy I talked to said the mufflers on the Magnaflow system were fairly large.
That should help with noise control.
I would like the sound to stay as close to the stock sound as possible.
A little extra rasp when I hit the gas is okay, but I don't want a lot of boom at cruise.

I love the sound of my slp powerflo. Its price isnt too bad either at around 500. The best sounding cat back for our cars in my opinion has got to be the borla. But at over $1000 its a lot of money. I had a magnaflow cat back on my v6 accord back in the day and it sounded pretty good. It didnt make much sound at the mid or higher revs and it kinda droned loudly while cruising, but it did make a deep classy sound (no rice). I would definately recommend the slp powerflo if you dont want to spend $1000 for a borla or corsa. You get the choice of round, trapezoid, or dual tips for it too.

The problem I have right now is that my stock system isn't exactly whisper quiet either.
It really never was.
I'm just curious how much noisier than stock the Mag' is and under what conditions?

idle and cruise it seems to be a little louder not much but smoother sounding not as harsh. and then screams like a banshee at WOT

i wish the GTX was running becuase it's exhuast system would be a good example. it has stock muffs but the glasspack realy smoothed out the sound and cut down on rasp at speed

That's kind of the sense I got from the video.
I think that may be a winner,if nothing better pops up.

I'd get the GMPP setup, IIRC it's a CORSA, I believe this is what is used on the new SS Impala. My neighbor has one of these and it sounds great. The magna flow system sounds good, but it seems a little louder than the rest.

Stay away from the BORLA, the cursing drone is un-real.

Laura (stkks) has a Corsa setup on her '04 CompG. To me that is the best sound I've heard on a GP. It has a mild to moderately deeper tone over stock with no observed "raspyness". If I had extra $ for it i would buy those. I'll post a link of a video I took of her on the dyno.

So the new Impy SS uses the GMPP exhaust ?
Does that exhaust bolt right up to our cars?
I did like the sound of the Corsa, but finding it in Canada can be difficult from what I've seen.

Corsa or Gmpp if your going full exhaust. Question...why go full exhaust. You know u can have $$$ and just replace mufflers w/ something of your choosing. The only major flaw w/ our exhaust is the manifolds but our stock exhaust are good till around 300hp+ when there's a lack in flow.

I have not heard personally the whole Borla system now I personally swapped out mufflers w/ Borla pros and there is absolutely no drone at all and kept stock resonator.

If it was my $$ would personally go with speeddaddy headers + your choice in mufflers and either keep stock resonator or replace w/ glasspack. Probably run around $450 or so together and headers will give that high end torque and mufflers of course will give you your desired sound. Food for thought since it wasn't mentioned

I ran 3" stainless (run 2.75" if you want it quieter) with a Magnaflow straight through muffler where the cat was, I think it was 24" long with a 5" body, and another Magnaflow muffler back where the regular muffler was, though I don't remember which one or anything.

Interesting ideas.
I need a full system.
I did find this:

http://www.corsaperf.com/product_displa ... roduct=631

I wonder why It's not listed for the GP?

I know the cat-back systems were the same for the 97-03 cars.

here's a link to the GMPP setup

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cf ... r=12498617

IIRC the 97-03 cat-back will fit on the 04+ but there's two hangers that don't line up right.

The GMPP has been discontinued. It is said that it is the magnaflow cat back. I have had my borla on my 99 for 10 years. The drone is not bad. It is the best sounding of the bunch. I got mine when they were $500. My brother has the slp powerflo on his 03 and it has a good sound to it. The drone is a little louder than the borla. It is a good cat back for the price.

The ZZP one isn't too terrible if you swap out the resonator with a magnaflow one. But there are better options for cheaper available. Believe it or not the pacesetter cat back is pretty nice and one of the more affordable options too.

Looks like I'm going Magnaflow with the resonator.
I priced out the Corsa and they wanted $1,700+ vs. $900 installed for the Magnaflow.
I'll let you know how it sounds after the install.

-- Tue Nov 01, 2011 6:44 pm --

I got the exhaust installed.
It's a Magnaflow 16726 - for a G/P GXP,IIRC.
The drone at 2,500 rpm is annoying [it rattled my brain at first].
It will drone up to around 3,500 rpm.
The funny thing is it settles right down everywhere else.
Hmmm.
I *think* it's due to the resonator ... I'm "guessing" it's tuned for the 5.3 V8 [makes sense].
That accounts for the "drony" areas where everywhere else seems pretty darned reasonable.
I like it except for the drone so I will see tomorrow about a proper V6 resonator.
I also bought some Goodyear Assurance triple tread tires.
I trust they're as good as some of you guys have said.
