I am installing zzp headers, and bending the dipstick is not going well for me. I am at a point where the dipstick is starting to kink, the only two options i can see is buying a new one and try again which I am not to eager to try, or making a lokar tube out of my present damaged one (not an easy task, but at least when Im done it will be easy to install). fyi lokar does not make one for our cars and zzp no longer sells prebent ones. does anyone have a easy third option for me?

Thanks,

Pack your current dipstick full of sand and find some way to cap it on both ends, make sure it is completely full. Proceed to bend it carefully, the sand should keep it from kinking by not allowing it to bend in. Be sure to clean it out properly before reinstalling it.

I can't promise it will work but given your current situation it's worth a shot.

If I go the route of buying a new dipstick and trying it again, I might try that, but I really don't want to try bending route again if I can help it. This whole project has been a major pita. the original reason to start this project (beside I can never get enough power) is I had an exhaust leak and when I was having some service at the dealership I asked them to fix it. They said my rear exhaust manifold was cracked, so I decided It was a good time for headers, I get the rear manifold off, and surprise, there was no crack!!!! they lost my business forever.

You won't regret the headers. I didn't, anyhow.

You're not really out anything by trying it on your old dipstick. Potentially could save you some cash.

Try the sand trick and if that fails, Summit Racing actually sells a flexible dipstick that some GP guys run. I know VictorSmalls had one on his GP, but I can't remember what the part number for it was.

Just use a tubing bender, simple as that.

This was my solution to the problem. I got some flexible metal tubing from the hardware store, made a coupling on the lathe, welded it to the bottom part of the original dipstick. I may have been able to rebend a new dipstick to work (the original was too kinked to use) but in the end this was easier for me.
Thanks for all your input.
