If you bought the car used, the previous owner might have changed the muffler.

Most mufflers look the same. You can't tell how loud they will be by looking at them.

I have Borla mufflers with the stock tips. They look stock but they don't sound stock. ;-)

The tips don't control the sound, the muffler does. It's also possible they removed the resonator, if you know what that is.

If it's louder than stock then it's not stock. An exhaust shop can put any muffler you want on your car and still use the stock tips.

Here's a video of my car with stock tips and Borla mufflers. If yours is this loud it doesn't have the stock muffler.

"Rare ground effects package" The word "rare" was also used 4 times in this thread for anyone who wanted to know.

The Corvette/Camaro/CTS-V/G8 all have quiet exhaust systems, so there's no way GM would put a loud system on a SE Grand Prix. They do sell an upgraded system for the Grand Prix thru GMPP and it's made by Magnaflow, so maybe that's what you have. It has a GM part number and it's covered under warranty.

could you put up a pic of this base GP with the ground effects package? becuase if ti sia base modle the ground effects where added later and not by the factory or dealer

and stock muffs can sound loud when they are rusted out on the inside sense you said the car looks new unter neath it is probalby an aftermarket system installed when they put the ground effects on so it could have a dual mufflers as base GPs only had 1 muffler stock

Pics of "Rare Ground Effects Package"!!!!

You asked a question about an exhaust. How does the way your car sound have anything to do with how it looks? It does not. So why did you post about the ground effects package?

Others have even suggested rusted pipe, rusted muffler internals, no resonator, aftermarket mufflers, etc. Just post a pic of the underneath of your car (and the ground effects kit) and we'd at least be able to tell you if you have a resonator and perhaps even if you have a stock exhaust.

I've been around muscle cars for 40 years so I do know WTF I'm talking about. And I don't sugar coat my responses if that's what you're looking for. This is a car club not a drama club, so lets keep it that way.

Didn't read the whole thread but from the first few responses let me chime in. Tips have nothing to do w/ sound only a visual mod. Because you have a louder exhaust as any other GP really doesn't mean you have something "RARE". Could be a number of factors like aftermarket mufflers...maybe rusted mufflers..a hole in your muffler etc. To be honest you probably don't have something "RARE". The best thing you can do is post a pictures of your car and especially the undercarriage and we can confirm. Majority of us know our shit especially when it comes to Grand Prix or we wouldn't be as active...food for thought. Learn to take criticism..we help as much as possible but when you can't take what others say we tend to get a bit sarcastic. If you wanna learn and provide any info you may have stay. If you wanna take internet sarcasm to heart. GTO or join elsewhere :)

reading though the thread you where the first one to get a bit angry when we told you it could not be a stock system or the system was rusted

all we ever did was give ideas of what it could be and you shot them down every time saying ti was part of the "package" we then asked for pictures of this "package" sesne you have said it is not a special edition or SE. even after this we where still trying to give ideas of why the system is louder

i would still like pictures as it will help us help you

I'm sure hoping "you" isn't me and is Don because I can't have another thread disaster on my hands. Sorry Don. ;-)

Even though "you" can refer to either Don, explicit, me, heck everyone in this thread. I hate the use of pronouns in the English language.
I just wanted pics of the "Rare ground effects package" since that's what this 2008 GP Exhaust thread is all about right?
